I am in the midst of trying to understand and at the same wanted to know:

1. "Why being a yoga instructor must or should have passion?"
2. Don't mind give me your definition what type or sort of passion you are expecting or talking?
3. When you keep on repeating that there is no passion when the instructors conducting yoga class? What is the percentage of passion you wants from the instructor?
4. Do the members or the whole class of members REALLY require passion from the instructors?
5. Or you the one DEMANDS passion from the instructor?
6. Are you referring giving you attention only or the whole class?
7. Giving attention only to you, then it's not logical?
8. Giving attention to whole class, time not sufficient and I think too tedious for the instructor.
9. Why not you clarify clearly how and where the passion actually involved during yoga class? I still do not get you?
10. The instructor have to demo and at the same time to give instructions and narrations, don't you find actually is very tiring and strenuous?
11. Why not you request the mgmt to allow yourself to try for one hour and from there at the same time check it out how and where passion comes from or when should display out?
12. Last but not least you want passion and communications then you should opt for Bikram Hot Yoga. They have Passion (90mins hot at 40deg) so much communication (90mins of verbal narrations).

First of all, all you people, who write with the name "Anonymous", can;t you at least think of some nickname? So confusing and difficult to read when so many with same name type here. And if u have a personal fued with one of the instructors, is it fair for you to label all the native masters wrong? Keep ur hatred to urself. You must have asked for it, so stop trying to gather sympathy votes here, of how you were hurt, cheated, etc. Grow up and stop whining.

risa : u have no right to say that i'm trying to gather sympathy votes here or say that i had asked for it. u don't know ANYTHING, so keep quiet. don't act like u know it all and i'm not ur daughter, i don't need u to tell me to stop whining. dont act smart.

"BEST" is really objective and subjective. Everyone has their own preferance. I think we shouldn't label them as best or not.

Risa, after reading what Anonymous 06:41 wrote, I dont feel there's anything wrong there? Just thought what this person wrote is totally correct, you dont have to be native .......

Anonymous 09:42 -In your mind Dev and Saumik are the best instructors at TY but that doesnt mean the rest at TY share your sentiment. Everyone has their own preference and so do I, so far I prefer the teaching of a number of the local teachers at TY. I have attended Dev's class more than 5 times and I dont like his style of teaching and not sure if he still has the habit of coming in the class few minutes late and take his own sweet time to set up the equipments. I striked him off more than 8 months ago.

RP teachers , if only they had incorperated more 'talking' into their practice to teach us more abt yoga's philosophy, then it would be great. I used to ask Raj why he doesn't, he said members simply run away if u start talking too much......so sad isn't it? Really, this place is for doing workout, not yoga!!

Well, Ashley is a teacher who gives good yoga philosophy when u attend her class .. she talks well and really inspires u .. I find these extra care and concern nice and warm .. really inspires you to do yoga ... Vicky also is good .. he will gives a nice massage on ur back and makes u feel refreshing and energetic .. i feel these kind and gentle gestures makes a teacher caring towards his/her students ... and not just follow the routine of a yoga workout .. Teachers should go the extra mile and make us students feel inspired and motivated to go to class ..

i agree that such hand touch is very special esp as adults, we kinda lack these soothing touches. but i also suspect it is these touches that led a lot of females to think the wrong way.

TO dear Anon who asked so many questions on the topic on passion --

It does not mean attention to individuals. Passion refers to the level of interest that radiates from the person, in this case from the yoga teacher to students. The feeling of desire to impart knowledge, and not just going through the poses day in day out repeating exactly same words and same sequence.

A teacher with passion may notice common errors and correct the class, cater each class specifically to the students who are in attendance. He / she might also explain how to do each pose properly, what to look out for when doing the pose, what are the benefits etc. Balancing each class with diff poses that bring benefits to each practitioner, allowing both beginners and advance students alike to enjoy and feel challenged in the class.

There are many ways to show passion in the class. These are just some observations made when I attend classes led by inspiring yoga teachers.

Do you attend classes conducted by the freelance yoga teachers at TY? Many of them are quite philosophical and they are very popular at TY.

I dislike the management at TY and the behavior of the many inconsiderate members, and I cant imagine going to TY if these freelancc teachers no longer teach at TY.

Well, if the members choose to take a simple ordinary gesture of a little back massage the wrong way, then they are really sad and crazy. It's not as if Vicky singles out certain members and does it, then can say he is biased. He does it for all members in the class, so it's very kind and nice of him. Not only me, my other friends also commented on this and felt it is a nice and appreciating gesture on his part. Members, keep an open heart and don't take everything the wrong way. Only members who are crazy will feel otherwise. It really feels good and refreshing. Thank you so much, Master Vicky. Much appreciated. Hope his many fans can let him know about this feedback, since I assume the masters don't read the forum.

How come I never get massage on my back from Vicki? hahaha. I do not agree if you said he does this massage on everybody in class. So far i only see him massage to no more than 4 or 5 people I dont know if these people are his regulars. I never get the massage nor my other frens who also regular to his class. But 1 thing i can say Vicki is serious when teaching in class, no nonsense stuff athough his class pretty monotone, poses are all the same all the time week by week. I can understand him thoug, like other masters this is just a day job not like someone who has passion in teaching yoga and really want to inspire people.

i agree with u nonnie. these masters lack the passion to inspire people. i mean, they have passion in yoga. but having the passion to INSPIRE is another thing, they just don't have it, and they can't. so disappointing.

Yoga teachers need to take great honor and responsibility in taking the "seat of the teacher." They have been cautioned to act with integrity in this respect when they were doing their training as students.

But seems like these teachers who ended up in Sg are not doing the good job. They have stepped across boundaries between the teacher-student relationship.

Personally, I am in search of teachers who have a clarity in soul and spirit and not somebody who just come in to teach and earn money.

One reason I aint keen to try out Bikram yoga is because the poses are all the same in every class. Yoga can be hard work but should be fun and I am having a lot of fun in attending the different styles of yoga conducted by the freelance teachers at TY. I felt very uplifted last week after attending Jo and Ashley's Yin Yoga classes, Yvette's Yoga Therapy and Adeline's Intro to Vinyasa and Astangha classes, and the effect lasted for hours after the class.

Yin Yoga may look mild but some of the poses offer very deep stretching and are very therapeutic. Yvette's cardio classes are very challenging but fun, and I like Adeline's intro classes as the class is conducted in a slower but intense pace to help me to do the poses better, and she is very good in using props to help the student to get deeper into the pose.

Find the teachers you like and do yoga seriously but dont look too serious/tense when doing. Enjoy!

dear nonnie

hi, was just reading the above postings about Master Vicky and his back massage story. Maybe, you dont attend his non-peak hour classes, when there are few members (less than 20), then only he goes around doing it. And also, notice he only does it after a backward bend pose. It is not possible for him to give the massage during peak hour class when there are 50+ members. So, I guess that's why you and your friends who are regulars to his class don't get the massage.

on the topic of massage, how can we deem if its appropriate ? i have experienced a master massaging my thighs ,so close that its almost touching my private part. i think i was pretty stupid, i didn't stop him ,now i think back,it is indeed quite wrong!

# Posted: 15 Mar 2009 15:28

EastCoastGirl

Well, of course that was wrong, and you should have stopped or told off that master right away. But for Vicky's back massage, it is completely harmless and it;s just a press on the back, not a big deal really.

Lisa

# Posted: 15 Mar 2009 16:40

EastCoastGirl

The thigh massage is to loosen your hemstring so that your leg can be lowered more towards the back of your head. If you are not comfortable, just signal to the master you don't need it. Next time you attend the same class, notice how that little help can help a member's leg which is hovering above the head to go all the way down to touch the mat. The guys get it too, so don't get the wrong impression it is an act of molest. It is just a kind gesture to help you.

EastCoastGirl

# Posted: 15 Mar 2009 16:52

I have never said it is an act of molest.

dun be childish n mention names. What's up with u ppl falling in love with master. Do u even noe him personally? Love is a big word. dun misuse the word. what are u willing to do for him if u really love him as u claim? U are just creating unnecessary trouble for him to post such comment on the forum. Do ur yoga sincerely, the masters are here to teach, not to be ogled at.

So pitiful

# Posted: 15 Mar 2009 20:13

actually I kind of pity the master so much girls throwing themselves at him or similar. on the other hand I dunno why he is so lusted after by them. He is good looking yes, but I don't get it. Good-looking, muscled body with bad boy vibe going on, other than that, I don't see how come so many girls going crazy for him? I am not attracted to him at all so I don't see what's all the fuss. Girls...pls go find a local boyboy la...dont build castle in the air.
