Hey, Good Lordy, I am glad and hope no one should be venturing into that category, you know what I am sayin. Anyways, keep your mind outwards and roll your shoulders back, loud and proud because who knows, that article could help others who are strugglin with that very same issue we don't have no idea about. Maybe you could even offer a creative objective point of view, encourage others and bond with them. Go for it!

Forgive me for I didn't realize you were not obese
But u can always help others decrease
Cut out the fat, oils and grease
Then do your backbends with all the ease
Eat your carrots, tomatoes and peas
So you can always touch your knees!

Hi! Thanks for your willingness to share! I think I am not at the obese stage (at least I hope I'm not), haha. I think generally most of us want to be healthy and look fit and sometimes we are just not that satisfied even if we might have lost some weight. I complement my yoga/pilates practice with other forms of cardio, e.g. running, and together with a more sensible diet, plus adequate rest, it shouldn't be impossible. I'm still trying to work on getting enough rest and not giving in to temptations of unhealthy food!

Actually there is a lot of information on yoga and weight loss. But with the big bookstores like Borders closed down, we may have to get our books by ordering online. I know ONE WELLNESS in raffles place has a nice library of books about yoga, postures, beginner yoga, and also yoga philosophy. Maybe those interested can call the admin there for more information on their little in-house library and try their classes at the same time. SVASYA in Little India (upstairs of the Mother's Restaurant) actually used to have a collection of the research papers written by past students from the teacher training classes.

Yes, why not , yoga is really helpful for weight loss. The stretching exercises in yoga can be very effective for body shaping and weight loss. But first consult with a yoga specialist to tell you the best exercise for weight loss.

Hi, for my yoga teacher's course, there was a requirement to do a research study paper. I did mine and the title is YOGA AND OBESITY. If you like you can ask me for it and I can let you read it. I included a recipe for kitchari also. Not a problem.

It really depends on what kinds of yoga and the frequency of practice. In general, yoga isn't meant as a means to losing weight even though these days it is promoted as such, especially hot yoga. But I do have friends who practice yoga regularly and have lost significant amounts of weight over time. It doesn't happen overnight of course, and I think aside from the yoga practice, it also involves keeping a proper lifestyle and diet.

Personally, I haven't lost much weight even after several years of yoga. But it has helped in other ways, healthwise.

There hasn't been quite a lot of study on yoga to lose weight. Generally, though, exercise is much better to prevent weight gain compared to for promoting weight-loss, and it appears this also applies to yoga.

In short, absolutely! There are so many benefits to practicing yoga. Apart from its meditating effects, don't you know that there are yoga poses and flows specifically for weight loss!? Yoga has always been practiced for the effects it has on the inner self, the oneness and inner light it creates, but more and more people are using Yoga for fitness, toning, and...weight loss! Woohoo!
