I got some resources from this website and found that there r many yoga studios in Sg which seem quite interesting. One of which is absolute yoga at Tanjong Pagar. Are there any comments on this yoga studio ? It seems quite nice. I'm looking towards learning authentic yoga. Pls recommend .

I tried it once some months back, not bad, if you are into hot yoga.
But like all other small yoga studio, number of classes are very few, so you really need to adjust your own time to suit their schedule.

why dun u just go there for a tryout. or call them and ask them for trial class rates. normally small studios are happy to accomodate.

I left soon after class, so didn't take a good look. Just go down and see the place for yourself, and ask for a trial class.

i would like people to introduce me some other yoga studios. i'm looking at those places that are really calm and cosy. i mentioned 'absolute yoga' in my earlier post, i made a mistake, i was actually refering to another yoga studio at tanjong pagar. it is located in the shophouses.
if there's anyone who can just intro , pls do. thanks.

Tanjong Pagar? Are you refering to The Yoga Shala on Yan Kit Road?
It's an ashtanga mysore & ashtanga led studio.

check out the KRYOGA studio at 6 Nassim road...

see the other thread on KRYOGA for the links.

or Shambhala dot como dot bz at forum shopping centre.

I was with Shambhala for 3-4 years before switching to True Yoga last may due to the location and facilities, and started going to KRYOGA once a week since this Jan as I like the teaching of Yvette.

Om Shanti

I don't know about "cosy" since small studios normally don't have space for cosy, they rather the space for bigger studio class instead. if you want a sofa, drinks etc, you are better off at the large commercial schools like pure or true etc.

the studio is called " All About Yoga " at Tanjong Pagar. from their website, i find that they seem to have quite a good listing of classes per day. anyone been there before ?

I was with Shambhala for 3-4 years before and I would highly recommend this place, if you have no issue with paying abt $28 per session. It is a boutique yoga studio that has been around for a number of years. They have many good teachers from abroad and locals . Jo, Adeline and Ashley 3 of the popular freelance yoga teachers at True Yoga teach at Shambhala too. I like all 3 of them at True Yoga, and my fav at Shambhala is a greek-aussie teacher Vivienne Spanopoulos. Check out their website for the bio of their yoga teachers and the classes they offered.

shambhala was one of the first yoga studios in singapore, since over 10 yrs ago when yoga was hardly even popular. The fact that they can survive this long, means something is clearly working for them. the quality of teaching there is excellent despite the lack of facilities vs the bigger studios like pure, true, bikram etc.

How many studios does shambhala has? How big is 1 class size? Does the place look really high class?

Shambhala has 3-4 studios. Class size is around 20, less than 10 for ashtanga. They conduct Introduction To Yoga class, Yoga Teacher Training and workshop by renowned yoga masters from abroad regularly.

The place doesnt look high class and there is no cosy corner for students to hang around, no shower facility but I would say it's cosy and a conducive environment for learning yoga.

KRYOGA is situated across the street within the Spa Boutique compound, a colonial black and white bungalow. Check out the spaboutique dot com dot sg link to have a glimpse of the facilities there.

Om Shanti

frankly the most 'high class' places i've seen are true and pure. the rest of studios really just keep it simple, they can't afford to be high class since they don't have the student-scale like true and pure has. but yoga practice should be simplicity in itself right, no need to be in high or low class environment. in fact, any environment will suffice. you just need to be concious and aware of your own practice, not the surroundings.

karma closet, well said ! i've been disillussioned by high class environments that conduct yoga . you're so right, simplicity in the practice itself is the most important. however, shambala doesn't have shower room which would be quite a problem for me...coz i sweat quite a lot during yoga.
i 'm really interested to try out 'all about yoga' at tanjong pagar, seems like they got quite a good listing of classes within a day, plus, they have shower rooms too.

Real Yoga is started up by one of the instructor who used to work at True late last year. Studio is very small but cosy envinronment. Side back is they do not have shower/toilet. Fortunately, since the place is inside shopping mall you can always run off to the mall toilet for emergency case haha.

I like the overall feel of Real Yoga, but no matter how I try, I can't help but be bothered by Far East Shopping Centre itself. Walking into the shopping centre creeps me out. Why can't Real Yoga choose somewhere less 'ulu'? Enter Real Yoga, I feel all relaxed and stress-free then walk out into main Far East Shopping area, all tense up by atmoshpere. Pengz

why dont you go for a trial class at 'All About Yoga' to get first hand experience?

it's a very personal thing - besides the environment you have to enjoy the teaching of the yoga teachers there, everyone's need is different...

anyone tried Absolute Yoga's hot class? how is it? comparable to True Yoga?

I tried. I didnt like it as they are more towards BIKRAM style, everyday the same pose. Also more expensive if you count by per class fee comapre to TY - but you always can arrange a trial and see you like it or not. Before I came to TY I was with Raffles City BIKRAM - bored till death after 3 months, to me it was like military training, doing the same thing again and again until perfection, from there on I didnt like BIKRAM anymore, but to the others BIKRAM could be the last resort, it all depends what you want.

hi barbee. Well, I used to do TY also and I also feel TY's classes are also all the same. Masters teach the same poses day in day out. You can memorise the sequence and poses if you go daily. How is the temp and the atmosphere at Absolute? Bitchy and gossipy members like TY or each mind their own business?

Absolute

# Posted: 1 Jun 2009 14:56

I am a member at Absolute Yoga, and there is a very nice feeling about it. There is no bitchiness at all, just a friendly and supportive atmosphere. In my experience everyone is very polite, and I guess I would say that to the most part I see people minding their own business and concentrating on their own practice, though still finding time to wish others a nice day. It is a bit on the expensive side though I think. I think you should definitely go for a trial lesson.
